چکیده

Hadronic τ decays provide a clean laboratory for the precise study of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Observables based on the spectral functions of hadronic τ decays can be related to QCD quark-level calculations to determine fundamental quantities like the strong coupling constant, quark and gluon condensates. Using the ALEPH spectral functions and branching ratios, complemented by some other available measurements, and a revisited analysis of the theoretical framework, the value αS(m 2 τ ) = 0.345± 0.004exp ± 0.009th is obtained. Taken together with the determination of αS(M 2 Z) from the global electroweak fit, this result leads to the most accurate test of asymptotic freedom: the value of the logarithmic slope of α s (s) is found to agree with QCD at a precision of 4%. The value of αS(M 2 Z) obtained from τ decays is αS(M 2 Z) = 0.1215 ± 0.0004exp ± 0.0010th ± 0.0005evol = 0.1215 ± 0.0012 .

Neural network parametrization of spectral functions from hadronic tau decays and determination of QCD vacuum condensates

The spectral function ρV −A(s) is determined from ALEPH and OPAL data on hadronic tau decays using a neural network parametrization trained to retain the full experimental information on errors, their correlations and chiral sum rules: the DMO sum rule, the first and second Weinberg sum rules and the electromagnetic mass splitting of the pion sum rule. Nonperturbative QCD vacuum condensates can...

Confronting QCD with the experimental hadronic spectral functions from tau - decay 1

The (non-strange) vector and axial-vector spectral functions extracted from τ decay by the ALEPH collaboration are confronted with QCD in the framework of a Finite Energy QCD sum rule involving a polynomial kernel tuned to suppress the region beyond the kinematical end point where there is no longer data. Results show excellent agreement between data and perturbative QCD in a remarkably wide en...

Chiral Sum Rules and Duality in QCD

The ALEPH data on the vector and axial-vector spectral functions, extracted from tau-lepton decays, is used in order to test local and global duality, as well as a set of four QCD chiral sum rules. These are the Das-Mathur-Okubo sum rule, the first and second Weinberg sum rules, and a relation for the electromagnetic pion mass difference. We find these sum rules to be poorly saturated, even whe...

Tau lepton physics at LEP

The talk covers three contributions on (i) the final measurement of branching ratios and spectral functions of τ decays using the full LEP-I data from ALEPH, (ii) a preliminary measurement of the τ hadronic branching ratios from DELPHI and (iii) a measurement of the strange spectral function in hadronic τ decays from OPAL. These measurements are discussed and the relevant physics topics are bri...

Is there evidence for dimension - two corrections in QCD two - point functions ? ∗

The ALEPH data on the (non-strange) vector and axial-vector spectral functions, extracted from tau-lepton decays, is used in order to search for evidence for a dimensiontwo contribution, C2 V,A, to the Operator Product Expansion (other than d = 2 quark mass terms). This is done by means of a dimension-two Finite Energy Sum Rule, which relates QCD to the experimental hadronic information. The av...
